Buns & Brew is located 970 Parsons Ave. It's a gourmet hotdog and beer bar that has a number of interesting items on their menu. They are the only restaurant in Columbus that has that title. There is one in Hillard, but it has a different name and owner. This one is black owned.

There are a number of restaurants that feature gourmet beef hotdogs, like Dirty Franks and Links and Lemonade. This one along with L&L are black owned. When I first arrived, the one thing I noticed was there was no parking. I would assume most of their business is coming from locals. It's a nice little bar that has the potential to be great. I ordered the Texan, the Philly and the Bacon Cheeseburger. I also ordered spiral fries. They were all 1/4 lb. beef franks. The Texan was my favorite. It was on a Pretzel bun with chili, cheddar cheese and no onion. It boasted a good flavor and had more than enough cheese and chili, it made me want another one.
The chili had the right amount of seasoning that did not take away from the flavor of the hot dog. The Bacon Cheeseburger was probably my least favorite. It had all the ingredients that you would put on a cheeseburger on a hotdog like lettuce, tomato, onion and bacon. I think the lettuce is what took away from the flavor. The Philly was good. It had the right amount of toppings like green and red peppers, provolone cheese and onions. All the toppings tasted fresh. They had a number of combinations to satisfy your taste and other items such as wings and gyro. They are only offered on certain days. A host of sides rounded out the menu like collard greens, cornbread, baked beans, tater tots, potato salad, coleslaw and chips. I chose the spirals fries.
The place was clean and the hostess had on a mask. The service was just alright. They didn't check on us to see if anything else was needed. When the food was brought out, she never said there was more to come. We had to ask. This is not a deal breaker, but to grow your business the little things make a big difference. When we asked for a menu, they only gave us one even though two people were present.
There are some things that could be improved, such as the menu. They should offer items such as brats, polish or smoked sausage. They should also offer chili cheese fries. Some items said the pictures were coming soon. They should wait until the pictures are completed before adding the items to the menu.
I think they tasted better than Dirty Franks, but they don't compare to Links and Lemonade. There is a lot of potential here. I hope it improves so it can become successful.
My final review: My rating is between 1-5. One meaning needs improvement and five being the best.
