Ena's Caribbean Kitchen

Ena's Kitchen is located on 2444 Cleveland Ave. It serves up Caribbean cuisine along with some American fare. Some of you may not know that her restaurant was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri on the Food Network channel.

Today, I tried the perch dinner along with two sides. They were steamed cabbage along with plantains. I also ordered a side of potato salad with cornbread. Let me tell you, it was delicious. The perch had a golden brown breading that melted in your mouth. It was crispy, tender and flakey on the inside. The ends of the perch were crunchy and not overcooked.

The cabbage had very little seasoning, which is what you want when you're eating cabbage or greens. You want to taste the flavor there cooked in without being too overpowering. They were soft and not undercooked like some people serve them. It was steamed to perfection. You may want to add a little salt and pepper for your liking. The potato salad was some of the best I have ever had. It had a mixture of sweetness and dill mixed together. Potatoes were not undercooked or hard, they were just right. It had a hint of paprika sprinkled on top. I like my potato with a lot of egg and there was just enough to please my taste buds. I don't get the chance to eat plantains often, but now that I had Ena's I will definitely return. There was a light sweet glaze covering the top. They were tender and full of flavor. The sweetness of the plantains beside the cabbage was a great combination of sweet and salty. The cornbread was soft with a sweet and buttery flavor.

They have a wide range of Caribbean food to enjoy such as Ox tails, Jerk chicken, BBQ jerk chicken and Curry chicken. If you have a craving for Lamb or Red Snapper, they also have that along with rice, greens and Mac & Cheese.

Overall, I really enjoyed Ena's Kitchen. The service was good. They did have protective masks on and the dining room was cut off due to the pandemic. So if you want their food, you have to get it to go or have a delivery service to deliver it to you.

The restaurant was clean and organized.
